The Retribution: My Own Federation Star Ship

Prologue

The first thing you have to know about me is that I love Star Trek, and used to doodle images of Star Trek ships, and write out their fantasy specifications. There are two types of ships that really make me excited: the super large and versatile ships that are almost cities unto themselves, and the small, agile, overpowered ship that can take on ships ten times its own size.

Today, I am going to spec out the Retribution, a smaller ship with some of what I consider to be innovative features. I would say that this would be about five to ten years post-Voyager’s return.

What are these things?

Proton Class Shuttle - Created by Lt. Commander Tom Paris and Commander Harry Kim, the Proton Class shuttle craft is a completely Federation version of the Delta Flyer, a composite of Borg and Federation technology. With some minor upgrades, including regenerative armor, the Proton Class is still in the experimental phase, but Section 31 have already co-opted the technology, and slowed down progress on its adoption into the regular fleet by nearly eighteen months.

Holographic Command Interface - Unlike most ships, the Axis is the first to include holographic emitters on the bridge that also create all command and control consoles. They are easy to reconfigure for any size individual, as well as remove any possibility for injury from exploding consoles. There are two emitters for each station, and each emitter has its own independent power supply, as well as being hooked into the main power of the ship. This set-up allows for the entire ship to easily be managed and controlled from as few as two stations, requiring only five other crew to directly interact with the hardware of the ship to maintain it effectively.

Dedicated Holographic Ship Interface - Called DHSI for short, or Doug on the Retribution, the DHSI is the next step in holographic staffing and computer interface technology, brought on due to the success of the Voyager EMH. The program was then changed into an interactive link with the main computer systems of the Axis Class series of ships.

Interceptor Scout Drones - Able to cloak as well as move at upwards of Warp 8, the VZ Probes, as they are otherwise known, are unmanned, probes able to scout an area autonomously, thus allowing the Axis Class ships to cover more space during a search, or leave the probes behind to collect further information while the Axis Class vessel is called away. The drones have heavy shielding, and a relatively complex A.I, but no offensive capabilities.

Ideology of the Axis Class

Created to expand the reach of the covert intelligence arm of Section 31, the Axis class is an amalgamation of the latest technology from Federation R&D, mixed with the reverse engineering efforts of Section 31’s own R&D staff on various alien technologies. The Axis Class is to be one of only a handful of new Section 31 ships, and the third class to never transition to the general Federation ship building system.

About the Retribution

The Retribution is the second Axis class vessel, the first being the Axis herself. The Axis met a quick and untimely destruction when during tests, the Captain used both the Phase technology in conjunction with the Quantum Slipstream drive.

The Retribution will be followed by half a dozen other vessels in the coming two years. While small, the weapons, and technology allow her to both engage in combat with all of the Federations enemies, and win, as well be stealthy and untraceable.
