in Chapter One, History of Man: TFoT

Pinned down near a small hovel like house, he continued to shoot around the corner, doing the best he could to not give his opponents an opportunity to approach. The second rifle soon ran out of energy, and he had to switch over to his third. During the switch, two of the creatures had decided that the invader that was the Captain, must have run out of ammo, and approached the house, weapons drawn and aimed. Leaping out and firing while sliding into the ground, Malcolm was able to peg them both off, but was then left wide open for the final two aliens to shoot at.

Rolling wildly through the mud, splashes of heated rock, and dirt hit him as the bolts of energy nearly hit him numerous times. The force feedback of the suit pounded into his back and ribs but the damage was very minimal. Arriving behind a small hill-like bump. Popping the rifle over top of it, he let off some shots in the general direction of his assailants. They bounced off of their cover, doing almost no damage, but driving them to hide themselves better behind it.

Breathing heavily the Captain could feel the excitement at how close he was to victory. With only two more aliens to dispatch, he was setting a record time for beating the scenario. His excitement distracted him, and he didn’t realize that there was now only one alien firing back at him from a spot around thirty feet away. Malcolm found himself feeling a strong pain in his back and just below his ribs in the front. Looking down, he saw a large, serrated sword sticking out of his body.

Adrenaline pumped quickly through his system, realizing his lapse in concentration had got him killed in the simulation, he took it upon himself to finish what he had started, and proceeded to hit the alien with the rifle before shooting him. The program started limiting the reactions of the Captain based on various pre-sets. He was dying, and his strength, and movement was being diminished quickly. He turned back and aiming calmly, he let off two shots, one grazed past the head of the creature, while the other lanced right through it. He had destroyed all of the aliens, which would normally be a victory, but in this case, it just ended with a fade to black.
