Star Trek to be Released on IMAX

On May 8th, 2009, the next Star Trek movie will be released, and if you want the biggest and probably best experience, you’ll want to see it on opening night at an IMAX theatre near you as it will open simultaneously in you local regular theatre and IMAX.

It wasn’t filmed with IMAX cameras of course, but it will be digitally resampled to fit IMAX technology.

“We’re excited to share the enhanced IMAX version of this film with the millions of dedicated fans who have been anticipating this release since production began,” said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman, Paramount Pictures. “The IMAX Experience adds that extra level of excitement to an already action-packed film, giving moviegoers a premium ‘event’ at the multiplex.”

I don’t think IMAX is going to save this film, but I’ve never experienced IMAX yet and I will be interested to see what people think of the Star Trek IMAX experience. I have a feeling, I will be trying to see Star Trek on cheap night at my local theatre, as paying full price to see the upcoming Star Trek movie doesn’t interest me.

Future Idea Audio Edition: Carpooling

by David Peralty on December 15, 2008

in Future Ideas

I was driving along about three months ago, and noticed some people waiting out for a bus in the rain. I almost wanted to pick them up, but I didn’t know where they were going, and if they weren’t going near the same place as me, I didn’t feel right about going out of my way to help a stranger. I know it seems a little mean, but how often does anyone stop to help out someone walking along a desolate road, or get from point A to point B in a city? We expect them to take care of themselves, or take public transportation, but maybe there is a better solution that involves rewards based carpooling.

Fifth and Sixth Terminator Movies?

terminator-salvation-bale Fifth and Sixth Terminator Movies?

As some of you might have already heard, the fourth installment of the Terminator franchise, Terminator: Salvation is actually the start of a new trilogy, and the director is already planning out the fifth movie.

Christian Bale has signed on in the role of John Connor for all three films in the newly planned trilogy. They were expecting to have to wait until seeing how the fourth film did in the theatre, but the studios are encouraged by the buzz the film is getting and has given a green light for them to start on the next installment.

This means, we might get a Terminator movie every one or two years over the next while. My biggest concern is that we will be treated to a “to be continued…” style ending at the end of the upcoming fourth movie, but the Terminator franchise has been good at encapsulating stories before, hopefully these new films are no different.

I will be excited to see how everything goes, and what this continued John Connor role will do for Christian Bale’s Batman opportunities. Will we end up getting sick of seeing this actor everywhere?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

by David Peralty on December 15, 2008

in Movie, Superheroes, X-men

The first teaser trailer has been released for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and while it looks fairly good, I have a great number of concerns. While each X-Men video was better than the previous in my mind, I am hopeful that they’ll introduce us to the psyche of Wolverine, rather than making what almost feels like a strange take on the Hulk (monster created, now we have to hunt it down).

Watch the trailer, and let me know your thoughts:

As for Magneto, my favourite character from the X-Men Universe, the Origins movie regarding that character is hinging on the success of the Wolverine one. I have a feeling though that this movie, in part thanks to Hugh Jackman, will be very successful, and we will see an X-Men Origins: Magneto by 2010.

The Director, David Goyer, says that though the film will begin in a World War 2 concentration camp, much like we see in a flash back during the first X-Men movie. Most of the action will take place in the very early 1960’s and deal with the friendship between Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto.

Sidenote: Is it sad that I’d like to play a Magneto: Unleashed game?

Malcolm and Andrea both laughed. It was rare for the two Captains to share a happy moment such as this, and it only made him miss his wife and child more. How many happy moments had he missed in search for something that he might only find when it was too late?

They ended their conversations explaining ship statuses, any details that they’d noticed, and Malcolm made sure to pass on the details of William’s engine modification in hopes that something similar could also be researched and completed on the Tundra.

The screen went black and Malcolm stared at it in the darkness of his quarters. He really didn’t know what to do now. The thought of heading back to the bridge after a day that was nearly one negative thing after another didn’t appeal to him, and he had only been awake for around four hours, so sleep seemed like a silly option.
