battle_kirkvsoneill Battle: James T. Kirk versus Jack ONeill

I plan on doing many battle posts, as I think it is fun to think up scenarios where two people are put head to head and see who people would bet on to win, so expect many more posts like this.

Scenario: No ships, no crew, no support, Kirk and O’Neill are on a planet that looks, interestingly enough, like the dense forest areas on the mainland of British Columbia, Canada.

They are only armed with what they’d go on an away mission with. So Kirk has his phaser, and O’Neill has his P-90. Their motivation for killing each other is not important. Feel free to add in “evil space alien mind control” or Kirk has a Goa’uld in his head. They are one hundred feet from each other, neither have had any chance to pre-plan *.

What comes next is up to your imagination. How do you think it would play out? Who would you expect to come out on top? Yes, it is a strange mash-up and I will only say that if they can publish a book where Star Trek and the X-Men meet up, then anything is possible.

* And no, O’Neill can’t go all MacGyver on Kirk.

This poll closes automatically in one month. At that time, I will probably write a post explaining how I see the battle playing out. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in the comments below.

Following the internal logic of each show, O’Neil’s p90 would actually hit it’s mark faster(and fire more often by a ratio of about 20-1) than Kirk’s phaser (even though actual physics would dictate the reverse…silly Star Trek), so I have no doubt that O’Neil would win in a firefight. In hand to hand it’s trickier to judge, since Kirk’s background in hand to hand is full of holes, and the show comes from a time when martial arts and fighting choreography was pretty lacking, so it’s hard to judge the “character’s” skill level….but if I had to guess I’d imagine that O’Neil’s special forces training would surpass any training Kirk is known to have had…so I’d have to go with O’Neil there too.

Detailed enough answer? I could go on. :P

I think it is wise to look at the respective professions.

Kirk is a starship captain. He spends most of his time sat down doing fairly routine management style things. His job is to lead and while the show itself may have put him in the position of having to defend himself the “reality” is that he must surely have been accompanied by security teams whose role was to protect him.

O’Neill is the leader of that kind of security team. While the show has him exploring he clearly has no skills in that regard. He is a soldier who protects the explorers, not the explorer himself. He also routinely takes on a more offensive role by the fact that he usually has to actually kill his enemies without the use of a starship, although that clearly changed in later seasons.

In short, middle manager versus trained killing machine. No contest!

Phaser vs Gun = Phaser. O’Neil would be vaproized.

Kirk wins. And some how ends up with the green chick.
